Creative Leadership & Brand Strategy

Transforming a café into a cohesive brand experience through environmental design, wayfinding, and customer journey strategy.

Industry: Food & Beverage • Nonprofit

Role: Creative Director

Contribution: Brand Strategy • Experience Design • Environmental Branding • Wayfinding • Customer Journey • Signage Systems • Art Direction

Business Goal

Transform the 4Roots Café into a cohesive brand experience that strengthened the organization's mission while creating a more intuitive and engaging customer journey from entry to checkout.

Challenge

As 4Roots evolved, the café had outgrown its original environment. The space lacked visual consistency, intuitive guest flow, and a clear connection between the organization's mission and the physical customer experience.

The opportunity wasn't simply to redesign graphics—it was to create an environment where branding, wayfinding, merchandising, and team presentation worked together as a unified experience.

Strategy

Approach the café as a complete brand ecosystem rather than a collection of individual design projects. Every touchpoint—from environmental graphics and signage to merchandising and employee apparel—was intentionally designed to reinforce the same visual language while guiding guests naturally through the space.

Execution

Led the creative direction for the café transformation, developing the environmental graphics, wayfinding system, merchandising displays, branded team apparel, and customer journey. Working closely with operations and leadership, I translated the 4Roots mission into a physical environment that was easier to navigate, more engaging for guests, and consistent across every touchpoint.

Outcome

  • Unified branding, wayfinding, merchandising, and team presentation into a cohesive guest experience

  • Improved customer navigation from entry through checkout

  • Strengthened the café's connection to the broader 4Roots mission

  • Created a scalable environmental design system that could support future growth and brand consistency

Project Story

The café was more than a place to order food—it was one of the organization's most visible expressions of the 4Roots brand. Rather than treating signage, merchandising, and environmental graphics as separate initiatives, the project approached the entire space as a connected brand experience.

Every design decision supported both function and storytelling. Wayfinding simplified the customer journey, environmental graphics reinforced the organization's agricultural mission, branded merchandise strengthened retail visibility, and employee apparel became another extension of the brand. Together, these elements created an experience that felt intentional, welcoming, and unmistakably 4Roots from the moment guests entered the café.
